Frequently Asked Questions
What are your Rate Plans?
Please check
rate plans under the services tab and choose the appropriate
option, Commercial or Residential.
What is the Size of antenna?
The size of
the antenna's range from 2 ft to 4 ft as well as a dish style
antenna. The type and size of antenna used is determined
at the time of install based on the best signal achieved.
How does wireless internet service work?
An antenna
is installed on your roof. This antenna is pointed at one of
our nearby Access Point towers. When you send and receive information
over the internet, it goes over the wireless link from your
radio/antenna to our Access Point. From there that information
travels over our "Back Haul", which is a point to
point wireless link to our fiber-optic connection. From there
the information travels out onto the Internet. It has very low
"latency", or delay, and is well suited for gaming
as well as other services such as VPNs.
How long it will take for the installation process?
It depends on the coverage area of our towers and the strength of the signal at your location. Once you contact us; we determine the location of your premises and the tower near to that area. In the case of tower coverage at your location, we send trained technician out for signal testing. if the signal test is successful, we install the required equipment and set up an account for you. This whole cycle takes between 2 - 5 business days. In the case where insufficient signal strength is detected, a member of our sales staff will contact you, when a new tower closer to your location is deployed.
What are weather and obstruction issues?
Wireless Internet
access requires a "line-of-site connection" from your
house to one of our towers. This means that any large trees,
buildings or other obstructions may cause a degraded level of
service.
Weather typically does not cause a noticeable degredation of service as our system has been built to withstand quite a bit of abuse by the elements.
In most cases your connection will remain stable during winter and other stormy weather. However, power outages, ice build up and severe wind may cause a temporary outage.
Can I still use my phone while surfing the Internet?
Yes, customers
can use their phone and fax number(s) while they use our internet
connection.
How can I sign up for the service?
Customers can
sign up for the Community Wireless service by calling 812-256-3701
and our customer support personnel will guide you through the
process.
Pop-up Ads – A Royal Pain
Pop-up ads are
spontaneous browser windows that jet out at Web users when entering
an online site, exiting it or just while surfing. As old as
the commercial Web itself, the ad format truly came into vogue
when Web publishers got pressed for cash in the dot-com crunch.
Over time, pop-up ads are becoming less effective as readers
tune them out or avoid sites that host them altogether. Pop-up
ads have spawned a crop of programs aimed at minimizing or eliminating
this nuisance. If you are sick & tired of these in-your-face
ads, try out the following programs:

Popup stopper: www.panicware.com
AdSubtract: www.adsubtract.com

What are the computer requirements for high-speed wireless?
Minimum requirements: Pentium 133 mhz or higher, Windows 95 or higher; Mac OS/8 or higher; 32MB RAM or higher; 50MB free hard drive space. Recommended requirements: Pentium 233 mhz or higher; Windows 98 or higher; 64MB RAM or higher; 100MB free hard drive space.
Do I get e-mail accounts?
We no longer offer free email accounts. You can obtain a free email account at yahoo, gmail, hotmail and many more places. Those accounts are non-ISP specific, feature rich and are typically available anywhere.
Can all the computers in my home use the Internet?
Yes. Community
wireless provides a single connection to your home, but you
may connect all of your computers to this connection through
a home network which you would set up, or arrange with another
party to set up. Wireless routers and switches are relatively
inexpensive and easy to install and allow the sharing of the
service with all computers in your home that are connected to
the network. Routers can be purchased at any computer or office
supply store or directly from Community Wireless.
When do I pay for services?
As with most Internet Service Providers, customers must pay for services before they can use them. For the installation, the customer only pays for the installation if the installer is successful in activating the service. For the monthly Internet service, each month on your billing date you will receive an invoice in your billing email account. If you use our “Auto-pay” feature, your credit card or debit card will automatically be charged on your billing date and you will owe nothing when you receive the emailed invoice. However, if you prefer to pay by check or cash, your payment must be posted to your account by the due date on your invoice to avoid service interruption.
Can I get a refund if I do not like the service?
Since the customer does not pay for the installation until it is finished and the Internet service is activated (connected and working), the customer acknowledges that installation fees are non-refundable. Please call to speak to customer service if there are extenuating circumstances where a refund needs special consideration.
